2023 Fire-Ed Up Challenge
Get fired up for the Term IV Competition!
Students will have 6-weeks to complete a STEM-based design sprint focused on challenges posed by bushfires and the Australian bushfire management sector. Teams will select from a set of three scenarios and design a solution presented either as a 90-second video pitch or design poster.

The What, Why & How
This innovative and exciting competition enables students from all NSW schools to work in teams of 2 to 5 students, and conduct a small-scale version of a real-world bushfire-related investigation, developing core STEM and cross-functional skills!

Stage 3, 4 & 5 Programs
STAGE 3
The Stage 3 Program, is a comprehensive cross-curricular offering for teachers. Developed by the NSW Department of Education’s Academy of STEM Excellence and Rumbalara Environmental Education Centre in collaboration with Central Coast Council, this award-winning program is designed for Stage 3 students. It utilises the iSTEM process, aligning with the geography, science, technology, and mathematics syllabi. With ready-made teaching resources, Fire-Ed Up Stage 3 is available now, offering an immersive learning experience on bushfires and the role of STEM.
STAGE 4
The Stage 4 Technology Mandatory Program, is specifically designed for the Digital Technologies Module. This program, focusing on Bushfire resilience, will undergo pilot testing in Term 4 and will be fully implemented at the beginning of 2024. Utilising simulation software and micro computing technology, it offers an immersive learning experience. 10 schools will be invited to pilot the program and will receive FREE equipment, access to innovative software, and an engaging full-day lesson!
The Stage 4 Geography Program will also be available for pilot testing in Term 4, with full implementation at the beginning of 2024. 5 lucky schools will receive FREE equipment, access to innovative software, and an enriching full-day lesson!

STAGE 5
In Term 4, 2023, the Fire-Ed Up Stage 5 iSTEM program will be available online, completely FREE of charge! Immerse your class in captivating online learning sequences, lesson plans and engaging resources. Explore the science behind bushfires, learn about mitigation strategies and understand the vital role of technology in preventing and managing bushfires.
